Library of Celsus

The Library of Celsus, or Bibliotheca of Celsus, is one of the most iconic sites in the ancient city of Ephesus, located near the town of Selçuk in Turkey. This library was a monumental structure built in the 2nd century AD in honor of Celsus, a Roman senator and governor of the province of Asia.

The Library of Celsus served not only as a library but also as a mausoleum for Celsus himself. It housed a vast collection of manuscripts and scrolls and served as an intellectual and educational center of the time. With its richly adorned façade, it was considered one of the most beautiful libraries of antiquity.
